Tokyo 3-day itinerary for first-time visitors (2026)

Tokyo rewards grouping by geography. A 3-day plan works best when each day has one primary zone and one optional add-on.

Day 1: Asakusa + Ueno + evening skyline

Start with Asakusa in the morning, then move north toward Ueno museums or park walks. Keep evening simple with one skyline or riverfront stop.

Day 2: Shibuya + Harajuku + Omotesando

Dedicate day 2 to west-side Tokyo. Mix major crossings with quieter side streets, then close with dinner near your final station to reduce late transfers.

Day 3: Flexible city-choice day

Use day 3 for your highest-priority add-on: Akihabara, Ginza, teamLab, or a short day trip if weather is clear.

Friction-saving rules

  • Limit to 2–3 major stops per day.
  • Keep one unscheduled block each afternoon.
  • End each day near a direct train line to your hotel.

This format helps first-time visitors see Tokyo’s variety without turning every day into a rushed checklist.
